Methods of propagating the fat tree: how to properly propagate a money tree at home?

How to grow a money tree correctly

To grow a decorative tree, it is advisable to plant the cuttings in the warm season - in spring or early summer. At this time, the tree grows best and gains green mass. It is also important to choose the right soil for the fat plant and a flower pot.

Crassula grows best in clay pots.

This breathable material is capable of allowing moisture and air to pass through. The soil in the pot dries evenly, not just on top. This is very important for succulents. You need to choose a clay pot for the money tree. It is the easiest to grow a healthy plant in. Crassulas grow worse in plastic pots and often rot from overwatering.

It is recommended to plant Crassula in soil for succulents.

It is loose, allows water and air to pass through well, and dries quickly. You can also grow Crassula in universal soil for indoor plants, mixing it with sand in a 2:1 ratio. You can grow crassula: from a leaf blade and cuttings. Each of these methods has its own characteristics.

From a leaf

This is a very long process of obtaining a beautiful and large plant. It is possible to grow a money tree from a leaf, but it will take several years.

The leaves of the tree take root easily, but it takes more than 1 month to wait for a shoot coming from the bottom of the leaf. For rooting, large green leaves without damage are required.

To grow a beautiful money tree from a leaf , you cannot take very young leaf blades that have already begun to turn yellow. The leaves are separated from the shoot and buried in the ground with the base down 1/3 of the length.

When rooting, the most important thing is proper soil moisture. It should not be wet, but only slightly damp. The top soil should dry out between waterings. Crassula leaves quickly rot in wet soil.

From a cutting

The most popular way is to grow crassula at home from cuttings. In order to grow a tree, you need to take good planting material with thick and not twisted shoots. Freshly cut cuttings can be either without roots or with already grown aerial roots.

It is best to take a cutting with roots, as it takes root and begins to grow much faster.

Cuttings are rooted in spring and summer, since they take root most quickly in the warm season. But you can plant a tree from a cutting in the fall. In winter, it is not advisable to breed Crassula.

During the dormant period, cuttings take root reluctantly and may rot and disappear.

But some specimens can still take root, although this will take more than 1 month. Root cuttings in soil and water. To root in the ground, you need to dig in the cuttings and systematically lightly moisten the soil. If the cuttings are rooted in water, use boiled water, which is cooled to room temperature.

How to root Crassula in the ground?

Let's figure out how to plant a leaf in a pot with soil. A leaf prepared for propagation can be immediately planted in a pot, bypassing the germination stage in water. This method may take a little longer, but is a little less labor intensive. Both a ceramic pot and a plastic one are suitable for planting. The sequence of actions for rooting Crassula is as follows :

  • it is necessary to prepare a container for planting;
  • cut a leaf;
  • fill the container with soil (it is best to use special soil for cacti and succulents) and make a small depression in it;
  • the sheet is placed about a third into the recess and sprinkled with earth;
  • if necessary, you can organize support;
  • Moistening is best done by spraying, trying not to get on the sprout itself.

If universal soil was used instead of special soil for cacti and succulents, it makes sense to dilute it with sand in a 3:1 ratio.

also prepare the soil for planting a money tree yourself , for this you need to mix thoroughly:

  • 3 parts of turf land;
  • 1 part leaf soil;
  • 1 part humus;
  • 1 part sand.

Features of caring for a fat woman

Crassula is a very unpretentious plant. It is quite easy to grow and care does not take much time. Like most succulents, the Crassula does not tolerate waterlogged soil, so watering plays a vital role in its life.

However, you should also pay attention to other components of caring for this plant:

  • Feeding;
  • Temperature;
  • Humidity;
  • Lighting;
  • Trimming;
  • Transfer.

Watering rules

Watering the money tree is not the same in different seasons. In winter, during the dormant period, the plant is kept at low temperatures and dry. Watering is carried out no more than once every 3-4 weeks. In this case, the earth should be slightly damp only in the center of the earthen clod.

In early spring, when the dormant period ends, the plant is gradually removed from dormancy by increasing watering. In late autumn, watering is reduced, preparing the fat plant for wintering. During the growing season, the fat plant is watered depending on the air temperature.

In hot weather, water generously once a week. Between waterings, the top layer of soil should dry out by 3-4 cm. If the weather is rainy and cool, watering is significantly reduced. Water approximately once every 2 weeks. Always check the soil moisture before watering. Do not water until the top layer of soil in the pot is dry.

Plant nutrition

Crassula is fed only during the growing season - from May to October. In winter, when the plant is at rest, fertilizing is not carried out. If the tree was transplanted into new soil in early spring, then it begins to be fed 3-4 months after transplantation.

Fertilizing is carried out with fertilizers for succulents and cacti.

If it is not possible to purchase such fertilizers, use liquid formulations for decorative leafy indoor plants. But the concentration is 2 times less than indicated in the instructions for this product.

Liquid formulations are easiest to use. They are diluted with water and watered the plant. But this should be done only after the main watering, when the soil is well moistened. This is done so as not to damage the roots of the plant with a large amount of fertilizer.

Lighting and temperature conditions

A comfortable temperature range for the fat woman is 20-25ºС. The exception is the dormant period in winter, when the temperature drops. In winter, the fat plant is kept at a temperature of 13-17ºС.

Sudden temperature changes should not be allowed, which could cause the money tree to shed its leaves.

For a beautiful appearance, the money tree needs bright but diffused light. Direct sun exposure to the plant's leaves can cause them to turn red and wilt. Crassula requires intense lighting all year round, especially in winter.

To grow a money tree, high air humidity is not required.

It grows well in normal humidity in a city apartment. The plant can be washed with warm water in the shower, but this is not done often. Usually this procedure is carried out as a hygienic procedure no more than once a month.

Place the plant on windowsills oriented to the southeast. Here the sun is only in the morning. Large fat plants can be placed on the floor or table near a south window so that direct sunlight does not fall on the leaves.

Trimming and pinching

Very often, the cuttings of the Crassula grow upward and do not produce lateral shoots. In order for a young plant to look like a tree, its top needs to be pinched. This will give impetus to the development of side branches.

The money tree is pruned annually in early spring.

There are the following types of Crassula trimmings:

  • Hygienic pruning is carried out regularly and consists of removing dry, old and non-viable branches. In addition to drying and already dry branches, cut out all damaged and elongated shoots. All shoots that grow inside the crown are also cut out;
  • Formative pruning is carried out as necessary. Sometimes it coincides with hygienic pruning. When forming the crown, shoots that are too long are shortened. They can be shortened by half or even 2/3. The main thing is that shortening the branches makes it possible to grow the tree crown of the desired shape. And long and unbranched shoots are pinched so that they branch.

Crassula transplant

To grow a beautiful money tree, you should not forget about replanting it. It is replanted in early spring, when it has not yet begun to actively grow. Young specimens actively grow their root system. They are replanted annually.

Trees over 4 years old can be replanted much less frequently - every 2-3 years.

When replanting, the plant is removed from the pot and transplanted into another using the transshipment method. This means that you need to try to replant the plant along with a lump of earth. In this case, the roots are practically not affected.

The pot for the tree is chosen to be ceramic. The easiest way to grow a tree is in a pot made of baked clay. Its diameter should exceed the diameter of the old pot by 1 cm. A drainage layer with a thickness of at least 3 cm is poured onto the bottom.

How to plant a money tree so that it brings money

It is a common belief that a flower stolen from a rich house grows best. Energy experts claim that such a shoot brings with it some of the positive financial energy. And, since Crassula propagates well by cuttings, the stolen shoot will quickly take root.

A stem of medium thickness is considered optimal for jigging. It is recommended to place the carefully cut cuttings in water, which will help speed up the formation of roots. The cut area on an adult tree should be sprinkled with powdered wood ash.

However, in order for the sprouted fat plant to improve the well-being of the home, it is recommended to pay special attention to some rules.

The main points include:

  • When choosing a container, it is recommended to give preference to red, black or green pots. Since the plant is small and the root system has not had time to grow, it is worth choosing small pots. So a container 12-15 cm deep is enough. The diameter of the container should not exceed 12 cm; a larger size will lead to the growth of the root system with inhibition of the growth of the above-ground part;
  • Place coins in an even number at the bottom of the pot, as long as the bottom is enough. The currency and denomination are not important, it can be rubles, cents and kopecks. It is important to place the coins correctly - with the numbers facing down. It is worth installing a layer of drainage and substrate on top of the coins. It is worth burying the sprout no deeper than 6 cm, but no less than this, since there is a danger that the crassula will fall out;
  • When landing, you should definitely speak the plot three times to attract financial energy. It doesn’t matter which one, you can take any of the Internet conspiracies, it is important to put your faith in it;
  • After planting a flower on the trunk, you should definitely tie a red thread or ribbon, which will help strengthen the monetary energy.

A properly planted tree will become a real magnet for finance, the main thing is to believe in it. To do this, just remember a few simple rules.

Frequent problems when growing Crassula

Crassula rarely gets sick. The most common fungal diseases of this type are:

  • Root rot;
  • Stem rot;
  • Fungal infection of leaves.

These infections develop and spread quickly in moist environments. A plant can only get sick if the soil is over-moistened and the air humidity is high.

Leaf damage also occurs from moisture getting on the leaves and shoots of the plant.

The leaves of the money tree are a kind of indicator that will quickly respond to improper care of this plant. Here are the most common leaf problems:

  • Droopy leaves – the plant lacks moisture or nutrients due to a cramped pot and lack of replanting;
  • Leaves fall - a stressful situation, most likely hypothermia, a sharp drop in air temperature;
  • The leaves turn red - too bright lighting together with insufficient watering, sometimes this is how a disease of the root system begins;
  • The leaves become covered with dry spots - burns due to direct sunlight.

Sometimes the tree is attacked by pests. This happens extremely rarely. The only species you can see on the Crassula are mealybugs, scale insects and thrips. If insects are detected, it is recommended to immediately treat the plant with an insecticide. If necessary, the treatment is repeated after 7-10 days.

When to plant a money tree according to the lunar calendar

When planting plants, it is important to pay attention not only to the season and weather, but also to the phase of the moon. The period when the moon is growing is considered suitable for planting a money tree. Planting Crassula on a waning moon results in the flower not attracting financial energy, but, on the contrary, worsening the financial well-being of the home.

In addition to the lunar calendar, it is recommended to pay attention to the day of the week. The optimal time for the fat woman is Wednesday.

It is important to consider that the money tree does not create the energy of money out of nowhere, but only attracts it. That is why energy specialists recommend taking shoots from the homes of wealthy people. This will not affect their well-being at all, but will significantly improve yours.

Growing a money tree to attract finance is subject to several nuances that are worth considering. However, do not be afraid, everything is not as complicated and scary as it may seem; even a novice gardener can cope with it.

How to Grow a Money Tree Bonsai

It is very easy to grow a bonsai from Crassula - a miniature plant in the shape of a tree. Special methods are used for this:

  • Pot of appropriate size;
  • Regular formative pruning;
  • Topping.

Money tree bonsai does not need to be large. It needs to be grown in a small flower pot or in a special bonsai container.

A small pot will allow the tree to grow roots and quickly begin to form a trunk and crown.

The trunk or trunk of the tree also needs to be formed. All leaves and side shoots to a height of up to 20 cm are removed from the lower part of the rooted cutting. A lush crown is created from the upper part. Growing a beautiful crown is not difficult. But it does not form quickly.

The main thing here is to create branching shoots. Therefore, they are pinched, removing the upper bud with tweezers. In its place 2 shoots should appear. If only one appears, it is removed again. Regularly in the spring it is necessary to carry out formative pruning. Branches that are too long are shortened, creating a specific shape for the tree crown.

Rules for preparing planting material

Even a novice amateur gardener who has never independently propagated ornamental crops can plant and grow the popular “money tree.” Crassula is able to take root well with both small shoots and leaves. Most often, in indoor floriculture, the method of rooting shoots is used , which form roots as quickly as possible and quickly take root in a permanent growing location.

It is very important to take planting material from a well-formed parent plant. Amateur flower growers know quite a few types of Crassula, but the most common variety is Crassula arborescens, as well as Cotyledon arborescens or “money tree”. The shoots of the silver crassula (Crassula argentea) and oval crassula (Crassula ovata) take root very well. The color and shape of the foliage can be very different, but this does not in any way affect the rooting rates of the planting material.

It is important to remember that to take shoots from too young and not fully formed Crassula specimens. In addition, the indoor decorative succulent crop, acting as a mother plant, must be absolutely healthy, without the slightest signs of damage by pathogenic microflora or plant parasites. High-quality planting material should have at least a couple of leaves. First, you need to cut the cutting from the plant using a sharp and clean garden knife, then dry the cut area at room temperature for a couple of days. The cut area on the mother plant should be sprinkled with crushed charcoal.

How to grow a money tree with a thick trunk

How to properly grow a fat plant with a thick trunk? It takes time, skills and certain knowledge. You can only grow a beautiful fat woman alone. You cannot plant 2 or 3 cuttings in a pot at once. They will not have enough nutrients, they will shade each other and stretch out. There can be no talk of any thick trunk under these conditions.

To make the Crassula trunk thicker, it needs to be planted in a small pot.

When transplanting, there should be no more than 1 cm from the roots to the walls of the pot. In this case, the root system quickly grows to the walls and begins to cover the earthen ball without growing much. At the same time, the plant begins to grow a trunk and shoots.

You can grow a beautiful money tree only in bright, diffused light.

Lack of light will affect the shape of the crown and the thickness of the trunk. Even during the dormant period, the tree should be placed in the most illuminated place. If there is a lack of lighting in winter, phytolamps should be used.

How big does a money tree grow? Crassulas reach impressive sizes indoors. They often grow up to 1.5 m in height, and their crown diameter is up to 2 m.

Features of Crassula propagation using leaves

Unlike propagation using a money tree cutting, which is essentially a ready-made plant, growing a plant from a leaf requires a little more time, but if you follow simple rules, success is guaranteed.

In order to propagate the plant, almost any healthy leaf will do; it can be cut or carefully broken off from an adult tree, or even just pick up a leaf that has just fallen. It often happens that fallen leaves take root on their own in a pot next to an adult plant and produce new shoots.

There are 2 main methods of propagating a money tree using a leaf.:

  • in water;
  • in the ground.

The first option is more preferable, since the preliminary development of new roots in water guarantees a greater chance that the seedling will take root.

Attention! Regardless of the propagation method, it is best to carry it out in spring or summer - it is during this period that the plant actively grows.

How to grow a money tree at home

Growing a money tree at home is not at all difficult. Having one large plant, you can prepare planting material that will be enough to grow many young specimens. Crassula reproduces vegetatively and by sowing seeds. For propagation, the following vegetative methods are used: leaf rooting and cuttings.

Seeds

It will take a long time to grow crassula from seeds. This is one of the reasons why it is not popular in indoor culture. It is also difficult to obtain money tree seeds, since in apartment conditions it blooms very rarely. But if you buy seeds at a garden center or online store, you can try it.

For sowing, use low containers filled with moistened soil mixture for fat plants.

Seeds are sown on the surface of the soil and lightly pressed into the surface. You can pour a very thin layer of coarse sand on top. Then the container is covered with glass and the seeds are germinated at a temperature of 18-25ºC. The shoots dive twice. First, a month after germination, and then, when the sprouts reach a height of 5 cm. The second time they dive into separate pots.

Rooting a leaf

Crassula leaves take root very quickly - from 1 to 2 weeks. Sometimes you can find a leaf with already formed aerial roots. But the young plant begins to grow from a baby - a shoot from the base of the leaf.

Such a shoot can grow only after 1-2 months.

For rooting, you will need a container with moistened soil, into which the leaves are dropped, base down. The temperature for rooting should be the same as for seed germination. The soil in the container is periodically moistened; the container is not covered. After the babies appear on the leaves, they can be transplanted into separate pots. They are cared for like mature trees. There can be 2-3 babies on one leaf, which will then form into fatty plants.

Cuttings

Cuttings are cut from a large overgrown specimen. It is easier to grow a tree from apical cuttings at least 10 cm long, but stem cuttings from the middle of the shoot can also take root. After cutting, the tree cuttings must be dried for 3-4 hours.

If the cuttings are rooted in the ground, then they are buried immediately in separate pots. They are placed in partial shade, the soil is periodically moistened.

If the cuttings begin to grow, it means they have taken root. If cuttings are rooted in water, they are placed in a container with boiled water at room temperature and kept there until roots form.

As soon as the cutting has taken root at least 5 cm long, it is planted in a separate pot and cared for like an adult fat plant. For the first month, it is advisable to keep the young plant in partial shade.

Reproduction: from “A” to “Z”

Crassula can be propagated at any time of the year. But in the summer it is still better to avoid this procedure: it has been noticed that specimens planted in summer almost do not bloom.

The most reliable method is cuttings

The first method of propagation is cuttings. It is suitable for a tree large enough to borrow a shoot from without harming its development. This is usually done when the plant reaches three years of age.

The presence of aerial roots on the cutting is a good sign: this one will be able to take root faster.

Aerial roots at the ends of the plant segments will help the cuttings take root faster

The cuttings intended for cutting must be healthy, flaccid, about 10 cm long. Rooting is possible both in water and in soil.

If you only have the tip, it can take root too.

Even the top is suitable for rooting

For better rooting, you need to prepare a solution of Kornevin and succinic acid. Kornevin can be replaced with Heteroauxin. First you need to dilute one tablet of succinic acid in 250 ml of hot water. Add Kornevin powder to the cooled solution at the tip of a knife. Stir well.

There is no need to spray the entire cutting with the solution; only the part of the shoot that will be in contact with the ground should be treated with a moistened cotton pad.

Rooting cuttings in soil

What to prepare:

  • sharp, disinfected knife;
  • antiseptic (turmeric or activated carbon powder);
  • soil for succulents or cacti with added sand 2:1;
  • a little sand;
  • small pot (or plastic cup);
  • drainage (pieces of polystyrene foam or small expanded clay);
  • rooting solution.
  1. Carefully, without breaking off the leaves of the crassula, cut the stalk: you need to hold it by the stem, cut between the segments. When cutting a cutting, keep in mind that it will need to dry a little.

Cut cuttings between plant segments

Treat the cuts with an antiseptic and place the cuttings for several hours to dry.

Before planting, the cuttings need to dry out a little.

Place drainage at the bottom of the pot.

Drainage is a must

Pour soil with added sand over the drainage and moisten it a little with the prepared rooting solution.

The soil should be loose and breathable

Moisten the cutting with a cotton pad soaked in a solution of Kornevin and succinic acid, and stick it into a pot of soil.

The cuttings should be planted to a depth of 4–5 cm

Sprinkle a small layer of sand on top and place the pot in a shaded, cool place.

The sand must be clean and coarse-grained

Sand is needed to prevent water from evaporating quickly, and at the same time it will protect the ground from mold. There is no need to compact the soil.

Reproduction of the Crassula: methods

There are two main ways to grow a money tree. Both of them are distinguished by their simplicity, so even a not very experienced gardener will probably cope with the task. Most often, planting is done with a shoot. The method allows you to achieve the desired result in the shortest possible time.

For this:

  • a short cutting (up to 10 centimeters) is taken from an adult tree;
  • tear off the lower leaves from the branch (about a third);
  • place in a glass with clean, thawed water;
  • add a little Kornevin there;
  • The cuttings are transferred to a bright window.

The first roots usually appear after 7-10 days. After this, the branch is planted in the soil. At this stage, do the following:

  • choose a small pot;
  • drainage material (2 cm) is placed in it;
  • fill up the prepared soil (the one for cacti is suitable);
  • the cuttings are buried 3 centimeters into the ground;
  • sprinkle with water;
  • install a support.

After about half a month, the root system will develop properly and the tree will be able to stand on its own.

How to properly care?

Crassula loves warmth and diffused sunlight. In northern latitudes, winter days are short. The tree is lacking light. This drawback can be eliminated by backlighting for 8-10 hours.

Crassula will be comfortable on eastern and southeastern window sills. On the southern windowsill, the tree must be shaded.

In summer, the flower can be left outdoors, protected from rain. At this time, water the tree regularly with settled water at room temperature. Remember, the flower does not like stagnant water. In winter, reduce watering.

Feed the tree twice a month with a complex or special fertilizer for succulents or cacti.

Plant a money tree by following all the recommendations. Provide proper care, and it will respond to you with intensive growth and, possibly, flowering. Keep in mind that only mature plants bloom; they must be over four years old.

Details

Start of the process

Preparing the soil for planting cuttings and shoots

By nature, the money tree is a succulent, so if you buy soil in a store, you can choose the one that is intended for cacti.

If you have the necessary components to prepare your own substrate, you can mix it at home.

To do this take:

  • peat;
  • clean river sand;
  • leaf soil;
  • vermiculite

Sand should predominate in this composition, so take 3 parts of it, and 2 parts of the remaining components, while vermiculite is added in the amount of one handful.

Important! When preparing the substrate for planting a money tree yourself, all components must be sterilized using a microwave or oven. If the soil is doused with boiling water before planting, it must be allowed to dry thoroughly.

Preparation of planting material

You can take a shoot or cutting only from an adult plant that is externally healthy and free of pests. A shoot is cut off, which grows vertically and its length should be about 10 cm and not less than 5 cm.

Neither cuttings nor shoots should be broken off; it is necessary to strictly use a sharp, sterilized knife.

The cut cuttings are removed from the lower leaves, because roots will appear in this place. If the shoot already has small aerial roots, the process of obtaining a full-fledged root system will be much faster.

The next stage of preparing the cutting is to treat its cut with a growth stimulant and place it in a small glass filled with water. The liquid in the container must be changed periodically so that it does not stagnate and the cuttings do not begin to rot.

Important! When it comes to planting dates, there are no specific restrictions. However, experienced gardeners believe that during the dormant period cuttings take root the worst. According to the recommendations, propagation is best done in the spring, when the plant wakes up and begins active growth. If at this time something does not work out, the attempt can be repeated in the summer if the technology is followed.

You can plant the prepared cuttings in the ground after obtaining roots, but initially it is better to use a small glass or a small plastic pot. Once in a large container, the money tree will grow green mass for a very long time.

Organization of the process

Planting a shoot without a root

Planting a money tree in the form of a shoot without a root can be done without separation from the mother plant. To do this, next to the main pot, another higher container with suitable soil is installed. The lowest located shoot is bent to the surface of the earth and pressed down with a small bracket.

After just a month, roots will appear on the part that comes into contact with the ground, and the shoot can be carefully cut off from the main tree and fully rooted in a separate container.

Reproduction of Crassula leaves

Leaf propagation is a fairly lengthy procedure. To get a new young plant, you need to spend a little more time than with cuttings.

For the procedure to end successfully, you need to know how to choose the right crassula leaf. First of all, it must be young and not yellow, otherwise it will dry out without taking a single root.

Suitable leaves should be taken from the middle part of the young shoot; they should be large enough, elastic and have a natural green color. Planting material should be easily removed from the shoot.

Interesting! Aerial roots may be present on the leaves, as well as on most shoots. This feature will help you obtain new copies of the money tree faster.

How to root a Crassula leaf?

You can get roots on a money tree leaf by immersing it in water or soil. The first method is not entirely convenient, because the leaves are often quite small.

To do this, take the smallest container and fill it with water. To prevent the putrefactive process from starting, it can be boiled and cooled. The water must be changed every 3-4 days, and the leaf should be immersed no more than ⅓ part.

After roots have formed on the money tree leaf, it can be planted in the ground in small cups. They need to be deepened in such a way that the soil covers only the root system.

After planting, each leaf of the money tree is covered with a jar or film to create greenhouse conditions for 2 weeks.

It is important to remove the cover regularly so that the plant is ventilated and does not rot. You also need to monitor the soil moisture level and add water if necessary.

From the moment the first sprout appears near the planted leaf, the cover is completely removed, and further care does not differ from the activities carried out for an adult plant.

Seed propagation of money tree

This is the most lengthy and complex procedure, especially since collecting seeds is complicated by the rare periods of flowering of the crassula.

If you manage to get money tree seeds, they are sown in low bowls on top of the prepared substrate. There is no need to sprinkle them with anything, just spread them out and lightly press them with your fingers.

After this, the container with the seeds is covered with glass or film. It is important to remove the cover every day for about half an hour to ventilate the seedlings. If the soil is dry, it must be moistened with a sprinkler.

If the temperature in the room in which the container with the seeds is kept is above 20 degrees, the seeds can germinate after 14 days.

Important! When most of the sown seeds germinate, the cover can be removed, but this should not be done immediately, but by increasing the ventilation time.

All this time, the crops are stored in a bright room, but without exposure to direct sunlight. Another month after the appearance of the first shoots, the sprouts are grown in the same container. Only after they reach normal sizes can they be dropped into separate cups. Each of them is filled with prepared substrate for succulents. If several seedlings are planted into a container, the distance between them should be at least 1 cm.

When 2-3 full-fledged leaves are formed on the seedling, they can be planted in pots with a diameter of 7 cm and cared for like adult money trees. In this case, the only difference is the intensity of watering, and in young plants the soil should not dry out completely.

Rules for caring for a money tree after reproduction

In general, further care does not differ from actions associated with an adult specimen. It is enough to follow some rules so that the money tree has a beautiful trunk and a thick crown.

  1. The first step is to choose the right location with half day sun exposure. If the plant stands in constant shade, its leaves will become faded and its already slow growth will be stunted. In summer, the money tree can be taken out onto the balcony or veranda. If this is not possible, it is enough to place the pot near an open window.
  2. As for temperature conditions, it is important that the readings on the thermometer do not go beyond 20-25 ºС. In winter, when the rest period begins, the temperature can be reduced to 12-16 ºС. In the first year of the fat plant’s life after reproduction, this rule does not apply, and the young plant must be grown at stable temperatures throughout all four seasons.
  3. The money tree is a succulent, so be sure to water it most of the time. Uncontrolled soil moisture can lead to putrefactive processes in the root system. Due to systematic overflows, the fleshy crown may also suffer, which will crumble profusely. The frequency of watering when creating normal temperature conditions is once every 20 days. For these purposes, it is best to use settled or filtered water.
  4. Despite the unpretentiousness of the fat plant, it requires periodic feeding, but much less frequently than for other plant crops. It is enough to apply fertilizer once a month so that the plant has the opportunity to fully develop. With the arrival of autumn, fertilizers are not used in maintenance.
  5. To form a beautiful crown, the fat plant can be periodically pruned, and at the end of winter, damaged shoots and wilted leaves can be removed. If the branches are too long, they can be shortened by no more than one third.

Transplanting a money tree

Crassula can be replanted in the spring before active growth begins. For a young plant, the procedure is carried out every year. The pot for the money tree is chosen to be 1.5 cm larger than the previous one and must have drainage holes.

Transplantation is carried out by transshipment along with an earthen lump, and the voids are filled with fresh soil.

Problems encountered during transplantation

Growing a money tree is quite simple if you follow certain rules.

During propagation and subsequent care, there is no need to overwater the plants. Crassula, like cacti, easily tolerates long-term drought and in such conditions it is much better than in wet soil.

Important! If, after watering, the water must be drained through the drainage holes into the glass tray so that the roots do not absorb it again.

An adult money tree sometimes reaches large sizes, so inexperienced gardeners initially plant the sprout in a large pot. There is no need to do this; the capacity should be increased in stages by 1.5 cm annually.

Crassula grows well in sandy substrates and does not tolerate heavy soil. In such conditions, it will not be able to fully develop, and the shoots will not take root.
