The ideal material for making a wick for irrigation is nylon. It is only important to ensure that the twisted strip is not too thick, otherwise you may overwater the plants.

Step-by-step instructions for creating wick irrigation:

  1. Thread a wick through one of the drainage holes at the bottom of the flower pot.
  2. On the inside, to avoid clogging the hole with earth, a small piece of moss is placed on it, and then a layer of vermiculite.
  3. The outer end of the wick is immersed in a container of water, which is located below the flower pot.
  4. You can proceed directly to planting violets.

A little prepared soil mixture is poured on top of the drainage layer laid in the pot, onto which the transplanted Saintpaulia is installed. Root shoots must be carefully distributed over the surface to prevent kinks and damage.

After the flower is correctly placed in the pot, you should gradually fill the entire volume of the container with soil. It must be borne in mind that its neck should under no circumstances be immersed in the ground - its place is at ground level. At the end of the event, the plant should be watered so that the soil compacts and settles a little.

Soil preparation

It is recommended to purchase soil in a store, otherwise there is a risk of infecting the plant with diseases . If it is not possible to take it in the store, but it is necessary to disarm the soil: it is necessary to steam it and fertilize it with a solution of potassium permanganate.

Soil composition:

  1. River sand – ½ volume.
  2. Coniferous soil – 1 volume.
  3. Crushed moss – 1 volume.
  4. Leaf soil - 1 volume.
  5. Turf soil - 2 volumes.

You can also add Fitosporin-M to the new soil when replanting. First, you will need to prepare a liquid concentrate from it, according to the instructions, and then dilute the resulting concentrate in a proportion of 1 ml per 2 liters of water, and moisten the soil with it before replanting.

Just before transplanting, you can add a little vermicompost, charcoal or coconut substrate.

Dishes

You can choose a plastic or ceramic pot or container as a container for replanting. A clay pot contains pores, which causes the earthen ball to dry out faster .

Obtaining planting material

Reproduction of lilies by scales

This method allows you to obtain the largest amount of planting material. Up to 20 scales are obtained from one bulb, and on each of them up to 2-5 bulbs are formed for reproduction.

You can harvest planting material all year round, but it is best to do this in early May.

There are two known methods of propagating lilies by scales.

The first method is by digging up bulbs. Wash the bulbs removed from the ground and carefully separate the scales from the base. If you want to save the bulb itself for further propagation, then leave at least half of the scales on the bottom. For propagation, select only the healthiest and cleanest scales:

  • rinse them thoroughly with water;
  • immerse for 20 minutes in a 0.1% solution of potassium permanganate;
  • treat with a growth stimulator (Kornevin, Epin Extra);
  • place the bulb scales in a bag with damp sawdust or moss and tie it;
  • hide the package in a warm and dark place;
  • after 6-8 weeks, small bulbs form at the base of the scales, which need to be separated and planted in open ground or boxes.

The second method is without digging up the bulbs

When using this method, carefully rake the soil away from the plant without disturbing the roots. Then carefully separate the scales from the base of the bulbs

To disinfect, rinse the material for 20 minutes in a 0.1% solution of potassium permanganate and treat with a growth regulator. Then roll the scales in crushed charcoal and place in a clean plastic bag with a mixture of calcined sand and peat. Tie the air-filled bag and place in a dark place at room temperature. After 6-8 weeks, bulbs with roots appear on the scales, which are planted in a school for growing.

It will not be possible to propagate lilies with small bulbs using scales - calloused lily, drooping lily, pretty lily, as well as Caucasian varieties - Thunberg lily, Kesselring lily, Henry lily, etc., since their scales are difficult to separate.

There are a number of rules according to which it is necessary to replant violets:

  1. The container must be thoroughly rinsed with water before replanting, regardless of whether it has been used before or not. In this case, the dishes must be correctly selected. The best material for cookware is plastic.
  2. When replanting Saintpaulia correctly, its lower leaves should be in contact with the ground.
  3. You should not water the violet immediately after planting. This can lead to rotting of the root system. To maintain soil moisture, you need to cover it with a transparent plastic bag.
  4. It is advisable not to neglect plant rejuvenation procedures during the transplantation process. In order for the violet to take root quickly and painlessly, it is also necessary to properly care for it during the first time after transplantation.

Ignorance of the important nuances of the procedure may well lead to the death of the violet. The most common mistakes made by flower growers who do not have much experience in caring for Saintpaulias are:

  • Serious damage to the root system. It is not always necessary to shorten the roots and not too much.
