Achimenes apple blossom. Achimenes Apple Blossom Reviews:

SOURCE

This is a relatively new plant, which has not yet become widespread and famous, but is becoming more and more popular every day due to its high decorativeness, unpretentiousness and wide range of colors.. The main method of propagation of Achimenes is rhizomes, but not everyone understands what can come out of one small bump. Well, let's look at examples.

This is what rhizomes look like: they can be from 0.5 to 4 cm in length. As a rule, in one “harvest” there are both larger and smaller rhizomes. But to a greater extent, the size of rhizomes depends on the variety; some varieties produce only small rhizomes (however, this does not affect flowering at all), others produce quite large ones.

As a rule, the desired variety falls into the hands of the gardener in the form of one small rhizome. People who encounter this plant for the first time are often surprised and doubt when this little “bump” will be able to please them with flowers?! Yes, maybe already during the planting season! Moreover, with proper care, you will not just see what color your achimenes has, but you will get gorgeous blooms that will delight you for many months.

The photo shows the Peach Blossom variety, which was planted as one rhizome in March.
Over the entire season, the plant was transferred to a larger pot 2 times: the first time in mid-May in a volume of 0.7 liters, the second time in mid-July in a volume of 2 liters. The chronology of the event is attached. Peach Blossom, 1 rhizome, photo dated June 17[/td]

So that ACHIMENES does not disappoint

Achimenes are very easy to care for and at the same time bloom beautifully and are pleasing to the eye.
I have been growing them for more than five years and will express my point of view on care, in which I cannot entirely agree with some statements. They begin their flower year at the end of February, when it is time to plant the first batch after hibernation. I do this in several stages so that the flowering lasts until late autumn. The next batches will arrive in 10-15 days. And so on until the beginning of May. Achimenes are not picky about the soil, the main thing is that it is light and allows air to pass through well. I use a store-bought violet mix and add perlite. The drainage consists of a two-centimeter layer of sphagnum moss. A wide, not tall pot is best suited. I lay out the rhizomes horizontally on the surface and sprinkle them with earth, about 2 centimeters deep. Next, I moisten it with a spray bottle, cover it with a transparent bag and wait for the sprouts to appear.

After germination, care includes regular watering and fertilizing. I definitely settle the water or use rainwater. The flowers receive fertilizer every week. I like frequent feeding, but I reduce the dose by more than half.

They say that Achimenes does not feel well after the transplant. But if necessary, I transfer them, plant them in new pots - the flowering time and the appearance of sprouts are always on time. But I don’t recommend pinching during growth. Flowers branch well even without this, especially ampelous forms. Flowering is delayed by several weeks. Some varieties bush well, but the flowers become smaller.

The most suitable temperature is + 18 – 25 degrees. Achimenes grow not only in my apartment on an uninsulated balcony, but also in my country house in hanging flowerpots. Some write that cooling less than +10 degrees is detrimental to the plant. This is wrong! Sometimes in early spring or late autumn the temperature drops to +5 degrees and not a single flower died. At this time I simply reduce watering.
