General description and features
Description of Tiger Lily Flower:
- bush - spreading, reaches a height of 2 m;
- stems - tomentose, hard;
- leaves - green, sessile, lanceolate, length - 15 cm;
- bulb - white, spherical in shape;
- inflorescences are racemose, consisting of 3-10 flowers;
- flowers - about 12 cm long, pubescent, color varies depending on the variety;
- the smell is faint.
The tiger variety comes from a wild flower that grows in Japan and China.
Tiger lilies are herbaceous perennials. The flowering period lasts from 3 weeks to 1.5 months.
The young stems of the bush are highly decorative and are an independent element of landscape design. In the leaf axils at the end of summer, bud bulbs are formed, which, when released into the soil, germinate.
All modern domestic tiger lilies are the result of the painstaking work of breeders
Flowering time
The flowering period of tiger lilies is from early July to mid-September.
A little about flowers
There are many legends that tell about lilies. For example, in Ancient Greece, these beautiful white flowers were compared to drops of milk, which supposedly belonged to Hera, the wife of Zeus. According to Jewish legend, the lily is the only flower that retained its purity after Eve sinned. In Christian culture, the lily is considered a symbol of the Mother of God.
It is also worth noting that this plant is quite actively used by heraldists. Writers and poets also do not forget about this beautiful plant. But you should also know that lily is not only beauty and grace, but also many useful properties. In ancient Rome there was such a doctor as Dioscorides, who wrote a treatise “On Medicines”. It was in it that he spoke in detail about the fact that lily is capable of quickly healing wounds, burns, and removing bruises and various abrasions from the body. Also, these flowers can be useful in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases and toothache.
The most popular and famous varieties
Based on wild lilies, breeders have developed various varieties.
The most common are the following:
- Splendence - flowers are large, brick-orange in color with numerous purple splashes. The height of the bush is about 1 m and has abundant flowering. This is one of the most unpretentious varieties.
- Night Flyer - height 120 cm, flower diameter 16 cm, color - red with a burgundy tint, dark specks. Frost-resistant variety.
- Citronella - characterized by long flowering, which lasts about 25 days. The height of the bush is from 100 to 130 cm, the flowers are deep yellow with dark dots.
- Flora Pleno is a rich red color with dark spots. A distinctive feature is 36 petals. Height 60-90 cm.
- Fluffy leopard is a double lily, the inflorescences are bright orange with dark specks. The flower consists of 30 petals.
The peculiarity of all tiger lilies is that each part contains substances that are deadly to cats.
When these toxic elements enter the mouths of animals, they cause kidney failure, which is often fatal.
All varieties of tiger lily differ in their color, but the presence of specks is unchanged, which is why the flower got its name
Differences from Asian
The closest relative of the oriental hybrid is the Asiatic lily, but despite this, they have quite a few differences. First of all, the difference is:
- plant height;
- flower diameter;
- frost resistance;
- types of bud coloring.
The maximum height of oriental hybrids is about 120 cm, and Asian ones can grow up to 150 cm. Oriental lily flowers are larger (about 30 cm) and smell quite expressively, while Asian ones reach 20 cm and do not have a strong aroma. The buds of oriental hybrids are predominantly white, yellow, crimson or pink, while Asian ones can have a wide variety of colors.
Compared to Asian lilies, oriental lilies are more demanding in terms of maintenance conditions, so in order to admire their beauty, you must strictly follow certain care rules. Relatives of oriental lilies are Japanese species that grow in the mountains, so a certain soil composition is suitable for their successful cultivation.
They also differ from Asian ones in their weak frost resistance, which is especially important in regions with cold winters. Oriental beauties are also sensitive to fertilizing. They need to be applied according to a clear pattern and specific minerals. Asiatic lilies are more unpretentious and less prone to diseases than their relatives.
Flower care at home
The lanceolate lily is not a whimsical type of lily flower. But this does not mean that agricultural technology does not have its own characteristics.
Planting and replanting lilies
Planting is carried out using the bulbous method:
- Holes about 15 cm deep are prepared.
- Be sure to pour a little sand into the holes for drainage.
- The planting material is disinfected (immerse in a solution of potassium permanganate for 20-30 minutes).
- The onions are lowered into the holes and covered with earth, which is compacted a little.
- Watering is in progress.
If the lily is planted in the fall, the soil must be mulched after planting.
Transplantation is carried out every 4-6 years, in spring or autumn.
The bushes are carefully dug up, the roots are cleared of the ground, all bulbs are checked for damage or rot - the bad parts are cut off. When transplanting, large bulbous nests are divided into parts - the children are planted in new places.

Temperature
Tiger lilies love temperate climates. For active growth and abundant flowering, the optimal temperature is from +19 °C to +26 °C.
Watering
Watering is regular but moderate. Excessive moisture will lead to rotting of the rhizome and death of the flower.
The need for watering is signaled by the drying out of the top layer of soil.
Water flows only under the stem. It is important to avoid getting liquid on the green part of the bush and flowers. Watering is carried out early in the morning or in the evening.
Lighting
Lighting should be abundant, but diffused.
In constant darkness, the flower will not be able to bloom, and direct sunlight will lead to burns.
The leg should always be in light shade - for this, it is recommended to plant low bushes of other colors next to the lily bush.
Proper lighting is the key to lush and long-lasting flowering
Growing
Growing tiger lilies includes the following agrotechnical measures:
- regular watering;
- loosening and mulching of the soil - carried out after each watering;
- pruning - in autumn, sanitary;
- introduction of nutritional compounds;
- weeding.
It is recommended to use sawdust or pine chips as mulch.
Fertilizers
Fertilizers are used only in summer.
During flowering, fertilizers are applied every 2 weeks - complex mineral compounds or compost are used. When transplanting, fertilizers are applied to the ground.
Tiger lilies do not tolerate organic fertilizers.
Trimming
Bush pruning is sanitary and is carried out in the fall. Dry leaves, stems and buds are removed.
Growing Tiger Lily
The optimal time for planting a tiger lily flower is the last days of August or the beginning of September. For the plant, it is advisable to choose a flat, well-lit area with good drainage. It must be protected from drafts, which the lily cannot tolerate. The flower loves sunlight, but it is best to plant it in such a way that it is in partial shade for half the day.
Tiger lily is unpretentious to the composition and quality of the soil, but it grows best in nutritious and moisture-permeable soils with neutral acidity. If the soil is clayey, you must first add wood ash or sand.
Preparation and planting of seedlings
Tiger lily bulbs can be purchased at flower shops or specialized gardening nurseries. Before planting, the bulbs should be carefully examined and all specimens with black or dry scales, traces of mold and rot should be set aside.
Additionally, planting material can be soaked in a weak solution of potassium permanganate, which will prevent the development of pathogenic microflora and improve the survival rate of the bulbs.
Tiger lily planting technique:
- dig up the soil and add humus with the addition of potassium salt and superphosphate to increase its fertility;
- make planting holes about 20-25 cm in size;
- leave a distance of 18-20 cm between the holes;
- Fill the bottom of the holes with sand - it will be used as drainage;
- Place a lily bulb in each hole, deepening it 10 cm into the ground;
- Fill the holes with soil and tamp down lightly.
After planting tiger lily bulbs, water the holes generously and mulch them with a dense layer of peat.
Reproduction
The following methods are used to propagate tiger flowers:
- Bulbous - material is collected at the end of summer. The bulbs are planted in boxes in the soil so that by autumn they are already rooted.
- Scale method - scales are separated from the bulbs, which are transferred to nutrient soil in the spring.
The seed method is not carried out at home, since seed germination is extremely low, and not all varieties retain their maternal characteristics when grown by seeds.

As of late September this herb requires 400 to harvest. I just started working on my herbalism skill about a week ago and saw several spawns in the Howling Fjord that I could not pick because I was still around 395 herb skill. The error message said it required 400 skill.

Ultravox was formed in 1973 on the initiative of vocalist and songwriter Dennis Leigh, and was originally known as Tiger Lily
. An initial but incomplete lineup comprised Leigh plus Chris Cross (bass guitar) and Stevie Shears (guitar), with Warren Cann (drums) and Billy Currie (keyboards/violins) joining later in 1974. The group released one single in 1975, a cover of "Ain't Misbehavin'". Later, the band went through a series name changes including The Zips, Fire of London, London Soundtrack, and The Damned.Just… slightly off-topic

Tiger Lily requires a skill of 400 Herbalism to gather. Tiger Lily is most commonly found among the rivers of Howling Fjord or Sholazar Basin.

For those looking to make easy money with Herbalism, these are my suggestion to you.Farming multiple stacks of these is cake, and it takes almost no time at all. Fly around Lake Kum'uya (51.44 in Borean Tundra), harvest all the nodes you see, then just hover over the lake itself for a few minutes and BAMF, full respawn. I can usually get 10 stacks in 40 minutes tops, during which I'm usually doing things like looking for groups or chatting with my guild. They sell for anywhere from 25g (a low day) to 40g (my realm's average) and sell quickly, not to mention the chances of picking up Frost Lotus from the nodes.Easy money, easy farming. (Subject to individual realms, of course).EDIT: Also a good way to simultaneously farm Crystallized Life, 10 of which transmute into a single Eternal Life, which you can either use yourself or sell for an easy 30-45g (again, subject to your realm's economy).
Comment from Amourette
Blizz has made it bigger so it's easier to destinguish the Tiger Lilies from the other flowers. Was kinda hard sometimes when a Tiger Lily spawned in the middle of a group of similair looking flowers.
Comment from TheRussianMob
I didn't see this in any patch notes or anything and I forgot to take a screenshot for proof but it appears the gather level required to gather tiger lily has been reduced below 375. I tried gathering it at 372 because of a lack of gold clover in Borean tundra and was able to gather it despite its tooltip still saying it requires 375 herbalism to gather.

I found a good place to get these if you also want to do fishing is around River's Heart in Sholazar Basin. Both the Nettlefish Schools and the Tiger Lily respawn after you make your way around. I picked up a few stacks of each in a short amount of time.And if you do the cooking dailies for Dalaran, the stranded thresher in the lake drop chilled meat at a good rate.

Sholazar Basin is the best place to find many LK herbs except frozen ones of course. Lots of Tiger Lily, Goldclover, & Adder's Tongue.
Additional breeding recommendations
When breeding a tiger variety, you should pay attention to a number of nuances:
- This variety of lily flower does not need regular feeding, and therefore there is no need to overuse fertilizers.
- Flowers should be planted only on a hill where water does not accumulate after watering or precipitation.
The tiger variety is often planted in flowerpots, and with the onset of cold weather it is removed to a warm place. This is one of the ways that will help protect the flower from frost. In addition, tiger lilies in tubs look very beautiful.
Tiger lilies carry a virus called mosaic disease. It may not manifest itself in them, but there is a risk of infection of neighboring plantings.
To avoid mass infection, neighboring flowers must be periodically treated with fungicides.
Medicinal properties
What medicinal properties does Tiger Lily have?
Flowers and bulbs of this representative of the flora are used in folk medicine. Various preparations and natural decoctions are made from them, which tone up blood pressure.
They can also be used for colds, as they have an expectorant effect. Folk preparations from lilies are hemostatic and analgesic.
Therefore, they can be used for deep cuts, wounds, and acute pain. Typically, decoctions are used to treat abscesses, heart disease, pulmonary diseases, to restore the nervous system or to improve appetite.
The active components of this plant are part of Mastodinon . This medicine is considered the best natural drug. It easily relieves pain during the menstrual cycle and mastopathy.
In the East, the flowers of the plant are used as a seasoning. They are dried and added to various national dishes. The bulbs are boiled in milk or consumed raw.
IMPORTANT! Cats should not be allowed to ingest Tiger Lily. This plant has a strong toxic effect on these animals!
Diseases and pests
Due to non-compliance with the rules of agricultural technology, flowers may develop diseases such as fusarium, gray rot, and rust. Fungicides are used for treatment - Baktofit, Bordeaux mixture.
Insect pests - hoverflies, aphids, thrips, lily flies. Insecticides are used to destroy them.
Hybrid varieties are resistant to the disease, called mosaic. But if bushes with this disease are found in the garden, they must be destroyed immediately, otherwise they will begin to infect other flowers.
Tiger lilies look great in landscape design
Diseases
Tiger lily is resistant to many diseases. But with improper care and excessive watering, the lily can begin to rot. Lily also suffers from mosaic virus. During this disease, unsightly spots appear on the petals.
This is interesting! The mosaic virus does not harm the lilies themselves. But it can cause great harm to other plants.
Insect pests rarely attack the plant. In case of such a problem, use special spraying agents. Follow the rules of care, and the lily will definitely delight you with its beauty.
Landscape designers love to use lily. Tiger lily can be grown as a hedge. It goes perfectly with all colors. A bouquet of lilies has always been an excellent gift for a holiday or celebration. With proper care, the lily will certainly decorate your site.
