Violets have long and firmly won the love of flower growers due to their beautiful appearance, many colors and shapes of flowers , as well as their not too picky character.
Among the variety of varieties, we can highlight miniature varieties that do not take up much space in your home, but bring no less joy with their magnificent flowering.
Further in the article you will find a photo and description of the miniature violet Silly Girl (Lyon/LLG).
Violet Silly Girl (Lyon/LLG)
Saintpaulia Silly Girl (Lyon/LLG), or Silly Girl, is a miniature plant with very delicate semi-double pansies and girly foliage. Along the edge of the light pink petal there is a spray of red, which becomes brighter with each subsequent flowering.
The author of the variety is Lyndon Lyon.
The leaves have short roots and are shaped like a spoon or shell. In the middle of each there is a spot of a light shade.
Despite the fact that all the leaves grow equally, there are no clear rows in the rosette . There is slight waviness. The lowest leaves are drooping down.
This variety should not have a flat rosette . Most often, its shape resembles a hemisphere.
The leaves are very elastic and tough. The violet can rest against the edge of the flowerpot and “climb out” a little from the container. Even if the rosette is mature, it will not exceed a diameter of 10 cm. The edge of the leaves very rarely extends beyond the edge of the pot.
A characteristic feature of the Silly Girl variety is its tall and strong peduncles. It produces up to 7-8 peduncles at the same time, each of which contains from 4 to 7 buds. Blooming flowers are located high and do not cover the foliage.
The color of the petals is cheerful pink. Along the edge there is a bright crimson fantasy border . There is usually much more crimson on the upper petals. Over time, the spraying fades a little.
If we compare the size of the rosette and the flower, the latter is considered very large. The diameter exceeds 2.5 cm. There are always a lot of buds and the variety often pleases the owner with abundant bouquet flowering.
It takes root quickly and produces a large number of children. But sometimes it can be problematic to take a leaf from a plant, since they are elastic, fleshy and fit very tightly to each other.
If the violet receives an excessive amount of color, the rosette thickens. In such cases, the violet is placed in a less lit place.
There is no variegation.
Sometimes it can give sports. Deviations include white color of the petals, complete or partial absence of coating and pink color on the petals. If Silly Girl grows into a plant with all-white flowers, then it can be classified as an official sport called Clever Girl.
Blooming violets EK-Mirror of the Soul, EK-Mulatto-Chocolate, Face-Messenger of Summer, etc.
Flowering of domestic varieties. The variety EK-Mirror of the Soul pleased with its lush flowering. The first flowers that bloomed were quite large, but in the mass flowering they became smaller. Still, I really liked the variety; it blooms for a long time and with a lush head. Bright blue pansies with a snow-white fringed edge.

EK-Mirror of the Soul (photo of a separate flower):
EK-Mulatto chocolate. I read somewhere that this is a sport from the EK-Cunning and Love variety. I was impressed by the size of the flower - all flowers are 8 cm and the unusual plum color.
The huge ones (up to 8cm) on powerful peduncles form a stable bouquet. Dark green leaves. The size of the flowers and their color are impressive! (author's description).
EK-Mulatto-chocolate:
The first two photos are of May flowering, but in August it bloomed a little differently.
EK-Mulatto-chocolate, another photo (August 2011):
Continuing to show photos of E. Korshunova’s varieties, I’ll add a photo of the variety Bullfight, beloved by many. I also bought a leaf at the exhibition, I also got one as an addition, now the children have grown up from both.
EK-Boykov - huge double and semi-double red stars:
Also at the same exhibition, I purchased a leaf of the 23-Moscow River variety (Yan Zubo), I had never grown trailers before and decided to try it. Leaf gave two children, I'll see what happens. I hope you will like it for fans of trailers, and in general, I think that hardly anyone will remain indifferent to such a plant.
23-river Moscow (Yan Zubo)
I'm going back to my violets. LIK-Messenger of Summer. When I bought a baby at one of the Kyiv exhibitions, I didn’t even know about the variety, I bought it just like that. And this fluffy hat blossomed - I fell in love!
Very large single and semi-double stars with fringed edges of white petals with a crimson eye, with pink rays from the center. Rich green rounded quilted leaves. (Author's description).
Face-Messenger of Summer:
I also have two retro varieties of Prilutskaya - Princess Mary and Sudden Rain. One of them, it seems, Sudden Rain, was transferred after several years, lost its fantasy, and now has acquired some pink “bloopers”, although it is also beautiful. I like it because of the large size of the flowers and the spreading, unobtrusive blooms.
Sudden rain (Prilutskaya):
Princess Mary blooms differently each time, changing the saturation and amount of white in the flowers, I love her for her delicate pink-raspberry color and neat ruffles.
Princess Mary (Prilutskaya):
That's all for now, I'll try to post photos of foreign varieties soon.
Caring for a plant at home
The Silly Girl violet is unpretentious, takes root well, reproduces, and also produces countless children . She responds well to care and is not capricious at all. This variety is quite suitable for beginners or those who are interested in miniatures for the first time.
Proper watering and fertilizing
Like all violets, Silly Girl does not respond well to excessive moisture . If overwatering continues for a long time, the plant may become sick and die from a fungal infection.
But since the plant pot is very small, the humidity level must be constantly monitored.
Otherwise, the earthen lump will dry out and this will lead to sad results.
Advice! It is worth watering only when the top layer of soil is completely dry.
The plant, just like all miniatures, does not need excessive feeding . Too much nutrients can cause the center of the rosette to become overgrown, which is not always good for the appearance of the Saintpaulia.
You can fertilize the violet once or twice a month. The easiest way is to give three feedings for two months.
Lighting and temperature
Violet does not react very well to heat and may float a little or lose color intensity. But you should not place the plant in a place with intense lighting. This risks causing the center of the rosette to become very overgrown and very dense. It is best to place the pot in partial shade.
Silly Girl should be shaded from bright lighting.
If the rosette is in an area with excessive color, the leaves may change color. They take on a slightly brown tint.
Air humidity
Since Silly Girl's leaves are dense and contain a lot of moisture, the plant will respond normally to a slight decrease in humidity and will not dry out.
But still, air humidity should fluctuate between 50-60%.
How to choose soil?
Miniatures are not grown in substrates that are too nutritious, as the rosette will lose neatness. The soil should be light and allow moisture and oxygen to pass through.
Attention! The volume of the pot should not exceed 50 ml.
Pruning and hygiene
Faded flower stalks must be removed in time. Do the same with yellow foliage.
If a source of disease occurs, it is immediately stopped.
Reproduction methods
The easiest way to propagate Saintpaulia Silly Girl is using leaf cuttings . It takes root quickly and produces many babies.
The only problem with this variety is that the leaves are very elastic and dense. It is almost impossible to cut a leaf with a long stem.
If it is necessary to secure the cutting in the ground, the leaf plate can be partially immersed in the soil . Young babies can form on the leaf blade itself. They are carefully harvested after they have taken root.
It is also possible to propagate violets using lateral stepsons , if such have formed and it was possible to cut them correctly.
If the rosette is very old, it is rejuvenated or simply replanted.
Features of flowering, growth and reproduction
The violet develops quickly and without problems. All shoots take root well and grow actively. From the moment the baby appears until the first full flowering, only 6 months can pass. But you shouldn’t expect a rich sprout and a bright bouquet from a young sprout. All this will happen with the second and third flowering.
The first bloom of Scilly Girl is not lush.
Varietal characteristics are transmitted perfectly , genetic mutations occur quite rarely.
In cool conditions, the spraying is clearer and more intense.
Peduncles are very tall. A lot of buds are formed on them. The Silly Girl violet almost always blooms with a cap or a lush bouquet that rises above the rosette in the shape of a semi-sphere.
Flowering is long-lasting, one bud blooms for more than a month.
Mini violets with gel foliage Irish Imp, Silly Girl, Lullaby and others.
Dear members of the forum and guests of the site, today I will show you exclusively mini violets with gel foliage. Girl foliage - at the base of a strongly scalloped leaf plate of a round or heart-shaped shape there is a fairly large spot of light color, which radiates like rays along the pattern of the plate. (from I. Milekhin’s brochure from the directory directory for 2007) There are varieties with variegated gel foliage, some of which I showed you in the previous article. Rosettes with such unusual foliage are always beautiful, and when they have flowers, it’s impossible to take your eyes off them.
Irish Imp - Sorano - mini.
Simple white flowers with a thin green border and a finely frilled edge. Medium green gel foliage with wavy edge:
Very small, neat outlet:
The leaves are slightly raised when viewed from the side. Blooms regularly and abundantly. The flowers are delicate, airy with a thin green border. The greenish border appears especially well at low temperatures. Along the edges of the petals there is a thin fringe, which further decorates the flowers. The center of the flower is greenish-yellow. These are the flowers closer:
It is not difficult to care for.
Silly Girl - Lyon - mini
Semi-double medium pink flowers with a fantasy red border; small medium green foliage with large scallops:
This is also a mini violet. The rosette is small, slightly protrudes beyond 5 cm of the pot and does not increase in diameter as an adult. The leaves grow evenly, but there are no clear rows, since the leaves are on short petioles, and yes, they are also a little wavy:
The flowers are large for such a small rosette, on fairly high peduncles:
The border of red-crimson fantasy greatly decorates the flowers, being more intense on the upper petals. It blooms quite often and abundantly. It produces a lot of babies from the cutting well and quickly, but it is quite difficult to remove the cutting from the socket - the leaves are fleshy and fit tightly to each other.
Lullaby - Arndt - mini.
The simple white flower is edged with a thin blue border; funnel-shaped gel foliage with large scallops and ears:
This beauty was grown from cuttings. The variety is “brooding” and did not want to bloom for a long time. I thought I was doing something wrong... but after reading about this variety on the Internet, I calmed down, I’m not the only one whose rosette thinks for a long time before blooming. And so, I waited for the flowering, otherwise I was just admiring the openwork rosette:
As you can see, the rosette is lacy, very small, the leaves are slightly raised (a feature of the variety). White, unusually shaped flowers with a thin blue border, sometimes variable, are located on long peduncles. (Recently Svetlana Sazykina showed this variety and talked about it in detail, and I show how it bloomed for me):
The blue border of the flowers on my rosette is not very bright, but it is there... I hope that in the next flowering everything will fall into place. Despite all the “disadvantages” in the classical sense, I really like the variety for its unusualness:
Fay Madeleine - Wagman - mini.
Simple deep pink flowers with white and green edges. Wavy gel foliage:
This is also a mini violet with a small, curly, very dense rosette. This is the beginning of flowering:
and here almost all the flowers have bloomed:
When you look at the rosette, it is difficult to understand where one leaf is and where the other is, and where the scallops are... The rosette is curly and dense.
Flowering is abundant, quite frequent and long lasting. Peduncles are tall and strong. Each peduncle has 4-5 flowers that last a long time. And these are the flowers closer:
A very unusual variety. When the collection is already quite large and you want something exotic, unusual, then these are just the varieties with gel foliage. They don't even look like violets.
Mac's Pizza Pizzicato - McDonald - mini.
Double and semi-double coral blue flower; medium green strongly scalloped gel foliage:
This variety has already been shown by Alena Karpenko, and it came to me from her. Very funny, curly, rather dark green gel foliage with large scallops:
and this is a closer leaf:
The leaves are also wavy. Therefore, the rosette resembles a ball when more rows grow.
Blooms profusely and often. Blue iridescent flowers, semi-double and double, are located on tall, strong peduncles. And all the time, new flower stalks appear from the curly center and new flowers bloom...
Cupie Doll - Egenites - mini.
Simple cup-shaped flowers are colored with tints of lilac and purple with a thin green-white border:
This is also a mini violet with gel foliage:
Its leaves are smoother than the previous ones, with a jagged edge and, accordingly, the rosette is not as curly as the previous ones. But the flowers are very unusual. They are cup-shaped, petals with a deflection. The color is lilac-lilac with smooth transitions and a thin white-green border completes and decorates the flowers of this variety:
The flowers are located on tall, strong peduncles and a beautiful bouquet of flowers rises above the rosette.
The show is over for today. I would be glad if someone discovered new types of miniatures.
Reviews
Marina, Tula. “What I like most about this variety is that it blooms almost constantly. It happens that the leaves have already turned yellow, but the violet still produces new flower stalks with buds. Often there are so many flowers that you can’t see the rosette behind them.”
Maria, Moscow. “When the violet bloomed for the first time, there was practically no border. But now, when the rosette blooms for the third time, the border is wide and rich. In order to save space, I left only one sprout for myself and was very afraid that there would be a sport. But it worked out.”
Arina, Suzdal. “My socket lasted nothing. There was little fantasy. But probably the reason is the heat and young age. I hope the flowering will improve over time.”
