Peculiarities

This retro variety has remained popular for the second decade. Flowers in the form of simple and semi-double pansies with a wide red-fuchsia very lush corrugated border are usually collected in a bouquet that does not fade for quite a long time. Depending on the temperature and humidity, flowers can change color intensity. Sometimes the same rosette can bloom with both the colors characteristic of this variety and more vibrant ones. On such flowers, the brightness of the color appears due to small specks of fantasy, as if scattered from the bright border along the pink petal. Plants that always bloom with a large number of fantasy specks along the pink petal are considered sports. A slight variable golden border may also appear along the very edge of the ruffled petal. Peduncles are strong and erect. There are usually 3 flowers on one peduncle. With sufficient humidity and lighting suitable for this variety, flowering is frequent, bouquet, and of medium abundance.

The rosette is compact, smooth, made of rounded quilted leaves. When there is insufficient air humidity, the leaves begin to turn perpendicular to the plane of the rosette. The rosette is said to “twist” the leaves. Probably due to the increased demands on air humidity, this variety feels great on capillary mats. Another characteristic feature of the variety is that it does not like bright lighting. If you place the rosette in the center of the shelf under the lighting itself, then after a while the leaves of the rosette rise up. It feels good on the edge of a shelf away from the backlight or on a north-west or north-east window sill, and not at the window itself, but closer to the edge of the window sill. This variety is not for beginners. To grow a beautiful rosette and obtain lush flowering, an individual approach is required.

Caring for a plant at home

The violet should be placed away from intense lighting and provide moist air.

Proper watering and fertilizing

It is best to grow the plant on capillary mats . The essence of this method is that you need to lay a mat on a pallet and cover it with a special film for protection. And pots of violets are placed directly on this film.

Most often, this method is used when growing miniatures, but it is also perfect for Lyon`s Pirate`s Treasure.

Lyon's Pirate's Treasure is suitable for growing on a capillary mat.

The protective film has many small holes and this allows moisture to be distributed more evenly.

Such plants should be watered directly into the tray. also added to the water. Violet is fed according to the standard scheme. During the period of growing green mass, nitrogen-containing compounds are given, and after the appearance of flower stalks, they begin to fertilize with phosphorus and potassium.

You can also grow this variety using wick irrigation.

Lighting and temperature

The variety does not like excessive amounts of light. Prefers darker places. If you place it on a windowsill, in spring and summer the rosette will bend and the leaves in the center will begin to curl.

In cool conditions, the contrasts on the violet appear more clearly; in the heat it may float a little.

Air humidity

This indicator is very important for the Lyon's Pirate's Treasure variety.

If the air is very dry, then the leaf plates begin to curl, the rosette becomes clumsy and very ugly.

Also, the level of humidity affects the quality of flowering. This figure should be at least 55-60%.

Soil composition

It is worth choosing light and nutritious compositions that allow air to pass through well and retain moisture. You can purchase ready-made soil or prepare it yourself.

Pruning and hygiene

The variety is not prone to excessive shoot formation ; the rosette forms an even and neat rosette. If the rosette begins to curl the leaves in the middle, it means there is a lot of light. And it should be put in a darker place.

Advice! It is also worth promptly removing all dried leaves and flower stalks.

Reproduction methods

The variety is propagated using leaf cuttings . 80% of children go to sports, so in order to grow a full-fledged plant, it is worth bringing all the shoots to flowering. Babies with darker leaves and an overly wavy edge are more likely to be sports.

Propagation by leaf cuttings.

Transplant rules, rejuvenation

The rosette is replanted once a year. It is best to do this at the end of February.

It is worth considering that often after three or four flowering violets can go into sport. The border between the cherry border and the pink petal becomes blurry and a large number of fantasy inclusions appear. To avoid this phenomenon, it is worth constantly growing new plants from leaf cuttings.

Also, violets should be kept cool. If the room is hot, then the chances of genetic changes increase significantly.

Reviews

Tatiana Lysikova. The variety is beautiful, interesting, but difficult. There are lines where the flowers do not fully open, the leaves “spin” in all planes, and there is a very abundant fantasy throughout the entire petal. Therefore, the cutting must be taken from a plant that you have seen with your own eyes. I have a rosette of this variety growing directly under LEDs in bright and long-lasting light with overhead watering. Blooms constantly with short breaks. The flowers are quite large, about 5 cm. The golden ruffle on the upper petals is most pronounced in cool conditions. The socket is smooth and compact.

Elena Vyugina: I had this variety. Irretrievably spoiled. This is what he looked like last year (see photo). And this is how it bloomed this year (second photo). It stood on the north-west window, the rosette was like a horse, but the flowering also matched the size of the rosette - a lush cap. Bloomed long and profusely. I kept the sheet for myself, it’s already with the kids, I wonder what will come of this sport. And I gave it to the mother in the photo. I have an assumption that the variety has spoiled after a long and too hot winter on the windowsill, however, there was illumination, probably thanks to this illumination, such cap-like flowering occurred. In our country, if they drown, it’s like Africa is in the apartment! The window sill was hot all winter. I think it’s better to keep this variety on a rack, away from hot radiators, then you can open a window for ventilation without fear. And this sport is called the Empress Dress. A good variety, it even has beautiful sports!

Alena Buryakova: Very accurate and useful observations, I will add that the variety grows slowly, the leaves come out tightly, they thicken in the center, the variety is difficult.

Floweraholic: I don’t agree that the variety is tough - I have a number of bushes, they grow quickly, it’s true that they are all slightly different in color and the sports are very beautiful, they only come out in one dark tone, and the leaves often twist - but I just put them down on a shelf and the leaves evened out like a decent one.

Features of flowering, growth and reproduction

The variety is considered slow-witted . From the moment the leaf takes root until the first shoots appear, it can take about five months. It will take more than a year to grow a full-fledged rosette . It is also important to consider that the first flowering is not as full as the second.

The variety is propagated by leaf cuttings, but the varietal characteristics are transmitted very poorly , 7-8 children out of 10 will go into sports.

In the heat, the variety floats and a full-fledged rosette can go into the sport forever.

The peduncles are not tall, but strong and the flowers hold well. Most often produces abundant cap flowering.

The flowering time of one bud often exceeds two months. The breaks between flowering are short.
