Black callas - description of the variety and care at home

Today there are a huge number of flowers. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages. However, callas black and yellow or pure black will not leave anyone indifferent. It's very difficult to look away from them. These flowers are distinguished by elegance and mystery. Plants like these allow you to make your most amazing fantasies come true. Of course, calla lilies are not purely black. They are more of a dark purple and maroon color. It is worth noting that such plants are rare, unlike white ones. Maybe that's why black callas were so anticipated by many gardeners. But it is this variety that has become highly valued by couples in love.

Black callas: care

Black callas can be grown not only indoors, but also in the garden. Of course, caring for flowers growing in open ground is much more difficult. The most important thing is to plant callas of this type on the sunny side. After all, the birthplace of these amazing and beautiful plants is South Africa. This indicates that callas are accustomed exclusively to warm climates. In the temperate zone, these plants do not feel entirely comfortable. That is why you should carefully choose a planting site. It should be warm and light. However, in too hot weather they should be shaded, as the leaves will wither, burn and dry out.

What foods cause black stool?

If you see your own black feces, you shouldn’t panic right away. Most likely the reason is the food eaten the day before. In the vast majority of cases, this is what causes the change in color of stool.

The most common foods that cause blackening of stool are:

  • after beets and salads with them;
  • coffee;
  • red wine;
  • blueberries, blueberries, currants, pomegranate, black grapes, chokeberries, blackberries;
  • dried prune fruits;
  • bananas;
  • tomatoes and juice from them;
  • so-called blood sausages and medium-rare steaks;
  • liver.

Moreover, there is no need to worry if the change in color of stool is not accompanied by painful or uncomfortable sensations. Just observe your stool patterns for a few days. If the changes are caused by food, then during this time everything will return to normal.

Watering black callas

In addition, black callas love moisture. Therefore, they should be watered abundantly. This fact should also be taken into account when choosing a landing site. To get a flower garden of incredible beauty, you need to combine plants, creating contrast. Ideally black callas look good next to white flowers. This will give the garden more mystery and mystery.

Characteristics and descriptions of the variety

Black calla lilies are actually dark burgundy or deep purple in color. Plant height is from 45 to 100 centimeters. The leaves are green, long, pointed with small white or silver specks. They bloom in midsummer. There are about thirty species, the most common are:

  • "Calla Black Crusader" grows up to 50 centimeters, the flower is dark purple;
  • "Black Forest"
  • "Black Star";
  • "Captain Palermo"
  • "Maron Sensation";
  • "Naomi Campbell."

Landing

Garden callas should be planted in early May. It is worth adding mineral fertilizers to the soil before planting. In this case, no more than forty grams of material are required per square meter. After this, the area should be dug up. When the planting site is ready, you need to make holes. Plant tubers should be placed in the prepared recesses. In this case, the immersion depth should not be more than ten centimeters. After this, you can bury the planting material. There should also be a distance of 30 centimeters between the holes. The planting site must be well watered.

Reproduction

For planting in the garden or at home, use sections of the roots of adult plants. You should only purchase tubers and bulbs from trusted manufacturers, certified garden centers or experienced gardeners.

Callas are selected for planting according to the following criteria:

  1. Bulbs, like calla lily tubers, lose some of their moisture during storage and may dry out a little, but should not be soft to the touch.
  2. The surface of healthy planting material is dry and free of stains or dented areas.
  3. On tubers when purchased in spring, awakening buds should be visible, and the bulbs can show the first arrow. It is important not to damage the young growth and to carefully transport and plant the material.

You can propagate existing calla lilies yourself. You can get seeds 4 weeks after flowering ends. By this time, in the inflorescence-cob they are gaining sexual maturity.

Seeds

Feces are flowers, caring for them at home and in the garden allows you to get full-fledged seeds from any type of plant. Successful pollination of flowers is indicated by a change in the perianth - in any variety of calla lilies the color of the bedspread becomes green.

After 4 weeks, the seeds ripen on the selected peduncle.

Further steps for successful reproduction:

  1. The wilted inflorescence is cut off and the seeds are manually selected from it.
  2. The collected material is placed in a stimulant solution (Energen, Emistim) for 6 hours.
  3. The seeds are germinated for about 7 days by placing them in a damp cloth.
  4. Then the swollen, hatched grains are planted in a loose substrate.
  5. Calla lilies are grown in a warm, well-lit place, periodically spraying the plantings.

Plants can be brought out into flower beds no earlier than May. This method is used by breeders to obtain new interspecific hybrids. It is much easier to obtain planting material using the vegetative method.

Vegetative

An adult calla bulb begins to split off small, semi-flat sprouts, called “babies” among gardeners. They can be carefully separated from the mother bulb and planted separately.

Rules for dividing bulbous callas:

  1. If “babies” appear on the root of the plant, but they separate with great effort, it means the material has not yet matured enough. Such plants are left for another season.
  2. Experienced flower growers advise not to divide bulbous callas immediately after digging them in the fall. The material matures when properly stored. The bridge between the bulb and the shoot dries out and then easily separates in the spring.
  3. Small fragments of bulbs dry out faster and often die during storage. Such specimens should be planted in containers without waiting for spring.

Otherwise, young bulbs require the same care as adults. They are planted in the beds at the same time and watered equally. It is important to bury small fragments no more than 3 cm. Otherwise, young bulbs will take longer to sprout.

Tubers

Preparation of planting material for calla lilies with powerful, branched rhizomes begins in autumn.

The process of harvesting tubers for propagation:

  1. By the end of September, tubers of faded calla lilies are dug up, carefully shaken off the soil, and, if necessary, carefully washed.
  2. The remaining foliage is not trimmed; large buds are tried not to be damaged.
  3. Pickle the rhizomes in a weak solution of potassium permanganate for about 30 minutes.
  4. At a temperature not exceeding +15 °C, the tubers are dried in a dark room for at least 15 days.
  5. Then, without separating, place the rhizomes in paper bags or boxes and store them in a cool place. To store in an apartment, the tubers are covered with moss, packaged in plastic bags and sent to the refrigerator.
  6. Closer to spring, young nodules, similar to small potatoes, separate from the calla rhizome.

Then the material should be kept for several more days at room temperature to dry the sections and awaken the buds. Parts of rhizomes can be planted in separate containers for rapid emergence.

How to care for plants after cutting

To keep your plants fresh and healthy, you must follow certain rules after cutting flowers. First of all, you should place the callas in a cooler place, hiding them from the sun's rays. The water in the vase should not be very cold. It is better to use slightly warm moisture. It is worth noting that black calla flowers retain their beauty without water for only 20 minutes. After this, it will be very difficult to restore the plants to their former beauty. In such situations, hydration is unlikely to help. To preserve the beauty of flowers, you need to cut them under running water and only with a very sharp knife.

In what cases is it necessary to consult a doctor if black stool is detected?

  • Black stools are accompanied by vomiting and/or fever.
  • A history of gastric and/or duodenal ulcers.
  • Blood tests reveal iron deficiency anemia.
  • Presence of liver cirrhosis and (or) hepatitis.
  • Recently there was severe vomiting, especially if it was caused by drinking alcohol (possible Mallory-Weiss syndrome).
  • A history of intestinal or stomach cancer in the person himself or his relatives.
  • If this is a child, and he has become restless, whiny, refuses to eat or is too lethargic.

What do these flowers symbolize?

Black calla lilies are primarily a symbol of elegance and mystery. Flower petals are smooth and silky. In many countries, black callas are associated with negativity. In addition, beautiful flowers are often associated with farewell not only to the deceased, but also to the girl with whom the young man wants to break off relations.

Black calla lilies are also associated with poor health. The reason for this lies in the unusual shape of the flowers.

Symptoms

The appearance of black feces, if the causes are food, prunes or medications, is not accompanied by specific symptoms. But if additional symptoms appear, you should not delay visiting a medical facility. These include:

  • nausea and vomiting, and the vomit will be dark or red in color;
  • general weakness of the body;
  • increased body temperature;
  • acute and intense pain in the abdomen;
  • the appearance of bleeding from the anus;
  • dyspnea;
  • change in heart rate;
  • loss of consciousness is extremely rare and only in children.

Where can you use black callas?

These flowers will always stand out from the rest, even in large bouquets. After all, black callas are considered stylish and elegant. These flowers can give the interior a certain character. Even a small number of black calla lilies placed in a vase will add chic to the table on which they will stand.

To get contrast in the bouquet, you should mix flowers with white roses. To soften the velvety black hue of calla lilies, you can add pale pink buds to the composition. Single flowers can be used to decorate clothing. Black calla lilies can add elegance to any outfit.

Bouquets of these flowers can be used for many occasions. However, not every bride will decide to use them in wedding compositions. After all, there is a taboo on black callas. Of course, this applies exclusively to wedding bouquets.

Diagnostics

It is necessary to undergo diagnostics if black feces are detected only if you yourself have not been able to find out why the color of the feces has changed, and additional symptoms indicated above have appeared. Then the patient urgently needs to undergo examinations of the internal organs of the gastrointestinal tract using CT, MRI, swallowing a probe with a camera at the end, radiography, and should also undergo blood tests. These methods will help determine what pathological processes are occurring in the body and identify internal bleeding.

Gastric intubation

If the cause of darkening of the stool is high calorie foods, fruits, vegetables, prunes or medications, you must refrain from eating them for several days, and the discharge will return to its normal color.

Yellow corner

The bright yellow flower is one of the most popular flowers of the Calla Elliott species. Its sunny, sometimes lemony hue can compete with many bright flowers of this variety, and the emerald leaves are considered one of the most beautiful among other varieties. Note that varieties such as Florex Gold, Sunshine, Pearl von Zweibrücken, Pearl von Stuttgart and Schene Zweibrückerin can also boast shades of yellow.

Childsiana

One of the most popular varieties of Ethiopian Calla has magnificent funnel-shaped white flowers, the center of which stands out in orange. These rather compact plants are leaders in indoor culture and, thanks to the snow-white cover of the inflorescences and abundant flowering, are often used in flower arrangements.

Feeding

When growing black calla lilies, it is important to fertilize correctly. Typically, the plant is fed two months a year: March and April. The rest of the time, no fertilizing is applied. Although, in order for the flower to bloom all year round, it is recommended to fertilize more often. For this purpose, the plant is fed twice a month.

For calla lilies, you can use compost by adding it directly to the soil. You can use fertilizers diluted in water. As the latter, use any liquid fertilizer intended for ornamental flowering plants or special fertilizer for calla lilies.

Sometimes burns may occur on the edges of the leaves. This indicates that the fertilizer was selected incorrectly and the plant is overfed. Burns are caused by excess nitrogen. The less light a plant receives, the more nutrients it will consume from the soil.
